What is environmental noise control?
Environmental noise control deals with sound that crosses a site boundary: noise from a development reaching its neighbours, and noise from roads, aircraft or industry reaching a development. It involves measuring existing levels, predicting future ones, and designing mitigation such as barriers, enclosures or operating limits.

Environmental noise is regulated, and in Dubai the permissible levels depend on the type of area and time of day. A project can be delayed, or an operating site challenged, if it cannot show compliance. As environmental noise control consultants we carry out a boundary noise survey over representative periods, including night-time, and report the results against the applicable limits.
For new developments we prepare a noise impact assessment that predicts noise from plant, traffic and activity, often with noise mapping software, and sets out mitigation. For sites affected by external noise we advise on facade and glazing performance. Construction noise monitoring is available for projects with sensitive neighbours.

What are the noise limits in Dubai?
Limits vary with the land use of the area and between day and night. We identify the limits that apply to your site and measure against them.
How long does a noise survey take?
A basic survey can be done in a day; assessments that must capture night-time or weekly variation use unattended loggers over several days.
Do noise barriers work?
Yes, when they break the line of sight between source and receiver and are long and solid enough. We calculate the reduction before anything is built.
