What does a SCADA consultant do?

A SCADA consultant designs the supervisory layer of a plant: the servers, networks and software that collect data from PLCs, and the screens, alarms, trends and reports people use to run the process. Good SCADA design makes the state of the plant obvious at a glance.

The SCADA contracting team installs and commissions what we design. For the controller layer underneath, see PLC consultancy.

Many SCADA systems grow by accident. Screens are copied, alarms are added and never removed, and within a few years operators silence the horn without reading the message. As a SCADA consultant in Dubai we design from the operator's chair backwards: what do they need to see, what do they need to be told, and what can stay in the background.

Our SCADA system design covers server and network architecture, redundancy, communication with PLCs and RTUs over Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP and OPC UA, tag structure, alarm philosophy, historian setup and reporting. HMI design for local panels follows the same standards, so a screen on the machine and a screen in the control room look and behave alike.

Utilities and process plants use us as a SCADA consultant for water and utility plants in the UAE, where remote sites, telemetry and long data retention matter. We work within our industrial automation consultant service with PLC design, and delivery is through our SCADA contracting team. Building-side supervision is covered by our BMS consultant.

What's included

System architecture

Servers, clients, networks and redundancy sized to the plant.

HMI and screen design

Consistent, uncluttered graphics with clear navigation.

Alarm management

Priorities, grouping and rationalisation so alarms mean something.

Historian and reporting

Data retention, trends and automatic production or compliance reports.

Communication design

Protocol selection and integration with PLCs, RTUs and third-party systems.

Cyber security basics

User roles, network separation and remote access done safely.

When to call us

You do not need a finished brief. If any of these sounds familiar, let's talk.

  • Operators ignore alarms because there are too many.
  • You cannot get reliable production or energy data out of the system.
  • Several sites need to be monitored from one control room.

How we work

Designed, installed, commissioned and supported: one team across all four stages.

  1. Design

Process study, functional description, panel and network design.

  2. Installation

Panels, drives, instruments and cabling installed and terminated.

  3. Commissioning

I/O checks, sequence tests and performance runs on the live process.

  4. Support

Training, documentation, remote assistance and maintenance after handover.

SCADA Consultant: questions, answered

What is the difference between SCADA and HMI?

An HMI is a screen on or near a machine. SCADA supervises many machines or sites, stores history and manages alarms and reports. Most plants need both.

Can SCADA connect to equipment from different manufacturers?

Yes. Open protocols such as Modbus and OPC UA let one SCADA system read controllers from several vendors.

Can we view the plant remotely?

Yes, with secure remote access designed in. We set it up so convenience does not open the control network to the internet.

Do you redesign existing SCADA screens?

Yes. A screen and alarm clean-up is often the fastest improvement an older system can get.

What is alarm management in SCADA?

It is the practice of making every alarm meaningful: each one has a defined cause, priority and operator response, and nuisance alarms are removed. Guidance such as ISA-18.2 recommends that an operator should not face more alarms than they can act on. Good alarm design is often the biggest improvement in an old SCADA system.
